The Best Sports Bras for a Small Chest or Bust

The best sports bra for a small chest is Athleta's Ultimate Bra A to C: it is sized for A to C cups, built as a racerback for running, training and HIIT, and costs about $49. If you want high support at a modest price, the Gymshark Running bra is the pick. For yoga and lower-impact days, Alo's Airlift Suit Up and Lululemon's Energy Longline are the stylish options.
A smaller bust usually needs less encapsulation and more comfort, so compression and a good racerback often matter more than an underwire. But support still depends on what you do. We included one high-support bra for runners and sorted the rest by activity.
Our data lists cup sizes for only a few bras, so for most picks you will buy in alpha sizing. We have not tested these. The list comes from brand specs and what owners and reviewers keep saying, and prices change often.

Our picks, in detail
Athleta Ultimate Bra A-C
- Women
- Sizes XXS-XL (A-C cups)
- Support: Medium
- Cup sizes: A-C
- Alpha sizes: XXS-XL
- Closure: Pullover
Athleta's Ultimate Bra A to C is sized by cup range, so it is built around a smaller bust instead of being a scaled-down version of a larger one. It is a sleek racerback in a supportive compression fabric (75% recycled polyester, 25% Lycra for solid colors, per the page), sold in XXS to XL. Athleta positions it for running, training, HIIT and cycling.
At about $49 (the page showed $24.97 when we checked), it is the lowest-priced bra on this list.
The trade-offs: it is medium impact, not high, so some runners will want more. It was out of stock when we checked, and discounted colors are final sale.
Athleta's Give-It-A-Workout guarantee gives you 30 days from delivery to return it if it does not perform, and nonmembers pay $6 return shipping. Skip it if you need high support or a larger cup. Read the A to C review.
Gymshark Running Sports Bra
- Women
- Sizes XS-XXL
- Support: High
- Alpha sizes: XS-XXL
- Padding: Fixed
- Closure: Pullover
A smaller bust still bounces on a run, and the Gymshark Running bra lists high support. It has built-in foam cups with a padded apex, reflective details and a racerback, in 78% nylon and 22% elastane. Sizes run XS to XXL in three colors, and it lists at about $58.
For a smaller bust, a pullover with a high-support listing is often enough, and the lack of hardware keeps it simple.
The trade-offs: the page does not describe the closure or straps, so we assume a pullover with fixed straps. There are no cup sizes, and the foam padding is fixed.
Gymshark allows 30 days from delivery, but it lists underwear as non-returnable, so check whether bras are covered before you buy. Skip it if you need adjustability. Read the Gymshark Running review.
Alo Yoga Airlift Suit Up Bra
- Women
- Sizes XXS-L
- Support: Medium
- Alpha sizes: XXS-L
- Padding: Removable
- Closure: Pullover
The Airlift Suit Up is a polished studio bra with removable cups and a high-compression double-knit Airlift fabric (84% polyester, 16% elastane). Alo tags it as medium support, in sizes XXS to L.
Removable cups let you choose your own coverage and shape for yoga and Pilates. It also suits HIIT and everyday wear.
At about $88 it is the priciest bra here. The trade-offs: sizes stop at L, the page does not state a closure or adjustable straps (we assume a pullover with fixed straps), and medium support is not designed for running.
Alo allows 30 days for unworn items, covers return shipping on US orders with a pre-paid label and excludes items like select bodysuits and underwear. Skip it if you run or need extended sizes. Read the Suit Up review.
Lululemon Energy Longline Bra (Medium Support, B-D Cups)
- Women
- Sizes 2-14 (B-D cups)
- Support: Medium
- Cup sizes: B-D
- Closure: Pullover
The Energy Longline is sized for B to D cups in sizes 2 to 14, with longline coverage and medium support. If you sit at the larger end of a small bust, B is the smallest cup in this range, so check it against the size chart.
It suits yoga, Pilates, HIIT, lifting and everyday wear. The page rating was 4.3 from about 1,100 reviews, and three colors were shown.
It lists at about $68, and the page showed $58 when we checked. The trade-offs: the page lists no fabric, padding or strap details, medium support is not enough for most runners, and sizes stop at 14. Our data has no A cup option from Lululemon.
Lululemon allows 30 days for unworn, unwashed items with tags. Skip it if you run, need high support or need a smaller cup. Read the Energy Longline review.
Girlfriend Collective Harriet High Neck Long Line Bra
- Women
- Sizes XXS-6XL
- Support: Low
- Alpha sizes: XXS-6XL
- Padding: Removable
- Closure: Pullover
- Plus sizes
The Harriet is a low-support longline with a high neck, removable cups and soft FLOAT fabric (80% recycled water bottles, 20% spandex, per the brand). Sizes run XXS to 6XL, so it also suits a small chest in a larger frame. We record it as low support.
It suits yoga, Pilates and lounging, when comfort matters more than control.
The trade-offs: low support means skip it for running or lifting. The page had only nine reviews (3.8 average) when we checked, and its description conflicts on the strap style, so check photos before you buy. It is about $68.
Girlfriend Collective allows 30 days from ship date, with a $7 fee on refunds, and promotional purchases are final sale. Skip it if you run or need real support. Read the Harriet review.
How to choose a sports bra for a small chest
Match support to the activity, not just the cup. A smaller bust usually bounces less, but running and jumping still move it. For those, look for a high or medium-high support listing. For yoga and walking, medium or low support can be more comfortable.
Look for cup-range sizing where you can. Athleta's Ultimate A to C and Lululemon's Energy (B to D) list cups. Others use alpha sizing, where the band and cup are combined into one size.
Think about padding. Removable cups (Alo Suit Up, Harriet) let you adjust. Fixed foam (Gymshark Running) adds shape. Some bras in our data do not state padding at all, so check photos and reviews.
Check the band. The band does most of the support work. It should sit level and snug without digging in. Pullover bras have no adjustment, so size carefully.
Mind the style. Racerbacks give freedom for the shoulders, and longlines add coverage and a smoother look under tops.
Use the returns. Fit is difficult to judge online. Athleta, Lululemon and Alo allow 30 days, and Gymshark's window excludes underwear. See our best sports bras for more options.
Do a movement test. When your bra arrives, jog or jump on the spot in front of a mirror. If you feel discomfort or the band rides up, it is the wrong size or the wrong support level for that activity. Try again with a different size, or move up a support level for running and HIIT.
Consider what you wear over it. If your bra will show, as in a studio, the style and color matter. Alo's Suit Up and the Lululemon Energy are designed to be seen. If it will be covered, comfort and support come first.
How we picked
We have not tested any of these bras. We started with every bra in our data that is small-bust friendly, meaning A to C or B to D cups, or alpha sizing at the small end, and then ranked by support level, padding, style, price and what owners commonly report. Ratings are editorial estimates.
Our data is thin here: only the Athleta and Lululemon records list cup ranges, and none of the bras lists an AA cup or band-size range. That is why this list has five picks and says so. Read the full process on our methodology page.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best sports bra for a small chest?
In our data, Athleta's Ultimate A to C is the best all-rounder, since it is sized for A to C cups and positioned for running, training and HIIT. For high support at a modest price, the Gymshark Running bra is the pick. For yoga, Alo and Lululemon offer softer options.
Do small-chested women need a high-support sports bra?
It depends on the activity. For running and jumping, a high or medium-high support bra can help control bounce, even with a smaller bust. For yoga, walking and lifting, medium or low support is often comfortable. Choose by what you do most.
Should I wear a padded sports bra with a small bust?
It is a matter of preference. Padding adds shape and coverage, and removable cups, such as those on the Alo Suit Up, let you decide. Fixed foam, such as on the Gymshark Running bra, is always there. Look at photos and reviews to see how padding sits.
Do I need to size down in sports bras for a small chest?
Not necessarily. Use the brand's size chart and measure your band and bust. Alpha sizes vary between brands, so your size in one may not match another. Keep tags on until you are sure of the fit, and check each brand's return window.
Are longline sports bras good for a small bust?
They can be. A longline adds coverage and a smoother look, and the Lululemon Energy and Girlfriend Collective Harriet are longline styles in our data. They suit yoga and lower-impact workouts best, since the Energy is medium support and the Harriet is low.
